TERPSICHORE PROJECT
Intergenerational Joy & Healing Through Dance

Named after Terpsichore (pronounced "TURP-suh-kor-ee"), the Greek Muse of Dance, The Terpsichore Project is rooted in the belief that movement has the power to uplift, heal, and connect. This initiative brings together promising youth dancers from diverse and underserved backgrounds to create and share meaningful performances in hospitals and residential care facilities for seniors, terminally ill patients, and their families and caregivers. These performances take place in lobbies, communal spaces, and even at bedside, offering high-quality artistic experiences that foster intergenerational connection, joy, and solace through dance.

Impact on Patients, Families, and Caregivers
The Terpsichore Project brings moments of joy, beauty, and connection to those who need it most—patients, families, and caregivers in hospitals and care facilities. Through live dance performances, it offers comfort, emotional healing, and a sense of warmth in times of hardship. These intimate performances, whether in lobbies, communal spaces, or at the bedside, offer a unique and personal experience for individuals facing difficult circumstances. In environments often marked by isolation, pain, and uncertainty, the project provides a rare opportunity for patients and their loved ones to experience the transformative power of art. Whether a lonely senior in a care facility or a child facing terminal illness, these performances offer a brief yet meaningful escape—bringing joy, connection, and healing in a way that words alone cannot. The Terpsichore Project is more than just a performance; it is a vital expression of compassion, reminding us of the deep, lasting impact that creativity and humanity can have in times of need.

Impact on Youth Dancers
For youth dancers aged 11-17, the Terpsichore Project offers FULL SCHOLARSHIPS to work with a world-class instructor, gaining mentorship in a supportive and inspiring environment. This opportunity is about more than just refining dance skills—it’s about discovering the artistry of dance and the power it has to serve others. With many dance studios focused on competition and profit, the Terpsichore Project offers a refreshing perspective, encouraging young dancers to develop their craft while also learning the value of using their art to make a positive difference. Through this experience, they not only enhance their skills and discipline but also connect deeply with their communities, recognizing how dance can uplift and bring healing to those in need. It’s an experience that fosters personal growth and a strong sense of purpose, inspiring them to contribute to something bigger than themselves—all without any financial burden on their families, ensuring accessibility for all.

"I was inspired to start this project in honor of my grandmother, Betty Myrum, who passed away last year after suffering from dementia. During her hospice care, she could have truly benefited from the companionship and joy that this initiative seeks to provide. The Terpsichore Project aims to offer healing and emotional sustenance to individuals at the end of life or managing health challenges, as well as their families and caregivers, while also empowering young dancers to understand the value of using their gifts to serve others." ~ Lillian Barbeito, Director of The Terpsichore Project
